Christmas Time (2022)

Christmas time

What does it mean?

Gifts around our trees?

Or is it Saviour in a crib

And shepherds on their knees?

Christmas time

What do we do?

Eat and drink in much excess?

Or is it God with us now

So sinners He can bless?

Christmas time

What do we watch?

Repeats on our T.V.?

Or do we look on wooden cross –

The Lord who died for me?

Christmas time

What do we hear?

The same old Christmas songs?

Or do we hear the Word of God

Who came to right our wrongs?

Christmas time

What do we think?

Is it just Santa Claus?

Or do we know of God’s good grace,

He supplies from heavenly stores?

Christmas time

Is more than gifts

Around a pretty tree.

It’s more than lots of food and drink

And films on our T.V.

It’s more than all those Christmas songs

We hear from year to year.

It’s more than Santa in red coat -

It’s Emmanu’El – God is here!

Finding What You Will and Won't

You won't find a queen
Giving birth to a prince,
In a palace of silver and gold;
You will find a young maiden
Giving birth to a son
In a stable so draughty and cold.

You won't find a cradle
Lined with rich padded silk,
Nor a pillow of scarlet or red;
You will find a manger,
A baby lies there,
Only straw for His delicate head.

You won't find the richest
Or the powerful of men
Visiting that baby so fair;
You will find some poor shepherds
With their gift of a lamb
In that stable so mean and so bare.

You won't find a priest
Or a pharisee or scribe
Going to a place so cold;
You will find pagan kings
With gifts they did bring
Frankincense, myrrh and gold.

You won't find a leader
Wearing a crown
Sitting on an earthly throne;
You will find the Saviour,
The Creator of the World
Dying, to call a people His own

You won't find a light
In the dark heart of men
Until the truth breaks them free;
You will find a man
With wounds in His hands -
He got them at Calvary
