I Deserved

I deserved the nail pierced hands, The nakedness and shame, Death is the wage for all my sins, But Jesus took the blame

I deserved the nail pierced feet,
The thorns upon my head, But there is One who took it all - Jesus died instead.

I deserved the pain and grief,
The judgement of the Lord, But on the cross, One hung for me - Jesus, pierced by God’s sword.

I deserved the bitter gall,
The judgement cup of wrath, But there was One who drank it all - He drank every final drop.

I deserved the blackest hours,
The one who was rejected, But there was Jesus, fully smitten, That I may be accepted.

I deserved the piercèd side,
The punishment for my sin, But Jesus is the only way - Heaven’s only entry in.

All I deserved was wrath and death,
But received His love and grace - For Jesus took my punishment; He hung there in my place.

Now interceding for His Bride,
With wounds of the deepest love, The Lord, our blessèd advocate Prepares our home above.
