Christmas 2023 Poem

Four hundred years no prophet spoke

No word from heaven above

Then came the promise to mankind

The world would see God's love.

At last a prophet prepares the way

As written in God's word

Then angel came to lowly maid -

The love of God was heard.

God moved a mighty man of power

To call the people home

Another prophecy fulfilled

The love of God is shown.

In Bethlehem a babe is born,

The Saviour to all mankind

The love of God revealed in Him

For He would heal the blind.

The lowly babe would live a life

Of sinless purity

And die the death which we deserved

God's love sets captives free

From crib to cross the Redeemer came

To take Himself a Bride

He had a love beyond all loves

For Her the Saviour died.

He rose again from darkest tomb

Ascended to heaven above.

Interceding for His Bride

Preparing a place in love.

No greater love hath man than this

To lay down His life for a friend,

A love which comes from God's own heart,

Eternal, with no end.

Christmas Time (2022)

Christmas time

What does it mean?

Gifts around our trees?

Or is it Saviour in a crib

And shepherds on their knees?

Christmas time

What do we do?

Eat and drink in much excess?

Or is it God with us now

So sinners He can bless?

Christmas time

What do we watch?

Repeats on our T.V.?

Or do we look on wooden cross –

The Lord who died for me?

Christmas time

What do we hear?

The same old Christmas songs?

Or do we hear the Word of God

Who came to right our wrongs?

Christmas time

What do we think?

Is it just Santa Claus?

Or do we know of God’s good grace,

He supplies from heavenly stores?

Christmas time

Is more than gifts

Around a pretty tree.

It’s more than lots of food and drink

And films on our T.V.

It’s more than all those Christmas songs

We hear from year to year.

It’s more than Santa in red coat -

It’s Emmanu’El – God is here!

O Sacred Child

 O Sacred Child

In manger lay.

Came to redeem His own,

From weak and helpless babe in crib

To Saviour on the throne.

O Sacred Child,

The Warrior King

Crushed the serpent’s head.

He took away our guilt and shame,

And death – He struck down dead.

O Sacred Child

The Way , The Truth

Has conquered Satan’s lies

And we’re washed in Jesu’s blood

As on the cross He died.

O Sacred Child

The Bread of Life,

Holy food He gives!

Forbidden Fruit, no longer ours

For now in Him we live.

O Sacred Child

Born in flesh

Now sits in heavenly courts.

No longer in the garden, sad –

A sinless Bride He’s bought.

O Sacred Child

Lord over all,

Comes to give new life:

Second Adam – God and Man

Second Eve – The Church, His Wife.

O Sacred Child

The Law fulfilled,

We are condemned no more.

We enter into eternal life

Through Christ, the Heavenly Door.

O Sacred God,

O Holy Man

Will return again

And every person on this earth

Will bow before His Name!

Awake! Awake! O Christian

 Awake! Awake! O Christian,

For Satan seeks your joy,

He wants to make you falter,

Your walk he would destroy.

He whispers in your ears,

Puts sin before your eyes.

He tries to change your thinking

With his devilment and lies.

Awake! Awake! O Christian,

For the world would seek your soul,

It wants to make you like it,

Not partial, but the whole.

It offers you its pleasures,

Its money and its sin.

It makes you discontented,

It tries to draw you in.

Awake! Awake! O Christian,

For Jesus is your joy,

He wants to share His blessings,

He saves and not destroys.

He tells you of His comfort,

He shows you wondrous grace.

He came to earth to live for you,

To die there in your place.

Awake! Awake! O Christian,

For Christ restores your soul.

He wants to make you like Him -

Righteous, pure and whole.

He offers you His calm peace,

He sings love into your heart.

He intercedes for you in heaven,

His grace will ne'er depart.

Arise! Arise! O Christian,

Cast off your worldly thoughts,

Come serve your glorious Saviour.

Come enter heavenly courts.

Come, mortify the sin within,

Die to self and shame.

Come to the Great Redeemer,

Come! Give honour to His name.

Jesus Seated in Heaven

 No Sacrifice

Atone for all

That man could ever give,

But Jesus Christ,

The Father's Son

Died that we might live

No work we do

Can win God's heart

For filthy rags we wear.

But Jesus Christ

The Father's Son

Keeps us in His prayers

No chair there was

For earthly priest,

Their work was ne'er complete

But Jesus Christ

The Father's Son

Sits on the heavenly seat!

Spiritual Clothes

How weak and flimsy,

Clothes of Adam,

Fig leaves from the tree,

But garment made of nature’s branch,

Will not avail for me.

Priestly garments,

Clothes of Aaron,

Worn by Levi’s kin

Garments made for only few,

Won’t rid me of my sin.

Richest purple

Clothes of David,

Made from mollusc shell,

But garment coloured with rare dye,

From sin, won’t make me well.

My own good deeds,

Like filthy rags

Torn by guilt and shame.

No human garment is enough

For me to take His Name.

How weak and bleeding,

Naked Man,

Hangs on Calvary’s tree.

The garment woven by His blood,

Is made to set me free.

How dark and cold –

No robes for Christ,

He’s bound in clothes for grave.

The Garment of Salvation’s formed

For those He died to save.

Now death has died!

The Son has risen!

Gold band around His chest,

Crown of glory on His head!

Entered His heavenly rest

How white and pure

My wedding clothes,

Fashioned on the tree.

This garment made from Jesu’s blood,

Forever avails for me

Rejoice! For the King is Born!

Rejoice, O Mary

For good news I bring,

Good news, from God on high!

Rejoice, be happy

For comes a King.

Good news – Salvation is nigh!

Sing praise, O Joseph

For good news is here,

Good news of a baby boy!

Sing praise, be glad,

Redemption's near -

Sin He will destroy.

Bless God, O Simeon

For the Light breaks in:

The Consolation of Israel is born.

Bless God for His sign,

Atonement He brings

Turning darkness to glorious dawn.

Bear witness, O Anna,

Give thanks to the Lord

For the promise of God is complete.

Bear witness, rejoice,

For He is God's Word:

Death He has come to defeat.

So, come all you people,

Sing praise to the King!

Sing all the ends of the earth.

Rejoice and be glad;

Your praises - come bring,

Through Him you can have new birth.

All glory, all honour to God on high!

Rejoice with the angels, come sing!

Holy, holy, holy is His Majesty -

Worthy of the praises we bring.
